THE HARDER WORK

               “I’ve begun the harder work,” he spoke, “the part I rarely do, that isn’t natural but feels different now because I know I must: the editing and going back to what’s already made, rough drafts hewn, and giving time and attentions toward refinement and making something more.  Some will be same, others completely changed, and it’s all part to the process and creation toward finished craft.  Maybe, it’ll even end as something near to art.

               She listened, smiling, absorption and comprehension of his telling respondent in eyes before given words.

               “I’m proud of you,” she spoke in measured and temperate response; gladdened to see and know him in pursuit of deep-held dream.  “Keep going, she encouraged.  “Make the Dream…and, when complete, I hope that I may read.”

               To her hope, he offered reading of first piece.
