ADVENT

n.  1: a penitential period beginning four Sundays before Christmas.  2: the coming of Christ.  3: a coming into being or use.

“…Brothers and sisters: you know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep.  Fr our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; the night is advanced, the day is at hand.  Let us then throw off our works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, nit in promiscuity and lust, not in rivalry and jealousy.  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.”—Romans 13: 11-14

He listened to the second reading from back pew through pounding head and after-emptiness of false elations.  As words struck, heart started in race as his body trembled—unseen but sensed within.

Maybe it was coffee on empty stomach, perhaps aftermath of night.

                Maybe there was more.

Alleluia sang, and as it did he listened in contemplation—heart racing and body still in tremble.

“We all have thorns,” he knew, “and some are Hell drawing free.”

He prayed the trembling to pass; and when it did, he joined with the choir in praise.
