EVANESCENCE

“And I saw, when he had opened the sixth seal, and behold there was a great earthquake, And the sun became black as sackcloth of hair: and the whole moon became as blood: and the stars from heaven fell upon the earth, as the fig tree casteth its green figs when it is shaken by a great wind: and the heavens departed as a book folded up: and every mountain, and the islands were moved out of their places.  And the kings of the earth, and the princes, and tribunes, and the rich, and the strong, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains: and they say to the mountains and the rocks: Fall upon us, and hide us…For the great day of their wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?”—The Apocalypse (Revelations) 6: 12-17, Douay-Rheims Bible

There was an evanescent beauty in the end; the sign of falling stars, high and white in sky, that split and fanned in synchronicity over all the earth; each smaller glow marked with trailing tail, slow falling in unison above the land.

Then came flash, stars’ fission burst, that seared and blinded all that gazed upon its light; then was the wave and wall of force that knocked and rolled every living creature to the earth; and to those whose eyes were shielded, the after-sky was darkness.  The sun was black for all the day and night’s rising-moon moon shone blood red through settling cloud of judgment.

There were no mountains to hide, and those surviving burst and wall of force perished after in burning as flesh died and slow peeled from living beings in effect of a blackness holding still in air.

The few surviving were guarded, as if by God, within sanctuaries of earth shielded by currents of the wind protecting gardens of land and souls from poisoned air’s burning touch.

Gone was the dream of a good and beautiful world, erased in an instant, by the vanity of Man-Gods that proved to be devils.
