If God is in the silence, it was through Him in which they spoke; reading light and shade in eyes—windows to the soul—that spoke in means of esoteric understanding to souls in peace. They found no need for words to fill and break the silence of a settled still. The silence was not a tension, but a peace, and in it they lived the same.
There were sensings, signs—moods—that filled space between, and from them, they understood one another in clearer language than any imperfect word; and at night, when they lain together, their bodies spoke the same.
