BETTER DAYS

Maybe, looking back,
We will see this as a start:
When we saw life wasn’t for ourselves
And learned to give our hearts.

Maybe it’s the darkness
That conditions us for light.
Perhaps the wonder of new day
Lies just beyond this Night.

We can leave our thoughts at fear,
Freeze ourselves in place.
I prefer to think all this
Precedes our better days.

Make a difference. Show you care.
Communicate through space
That, even when social distanced,
Someone holds a place;

That you will be there when this ends—
Waiting on a friend—
As if it never happened,
And the next chapter begins.
