Sunlight fell and ambiance of room darkened as it did. Night set further in.
Candles lit on tables about, they and stars and silver of crescent moon through trees in summer canopy were the only light that shone into recess of the country home.
Anna lain on sofa, body long, on side in relieve of day’s carry and burden; and in the aura of darkened room, pale silver in hint of shade and amber of nearer candles’ light, she saw his eyes and spirit’s gaze of adore and reverie-dream.
She was tired. Her body ached from burden of the day, but in his gaze, softness and gentle comfort of way, ache of body softened too.
“What are you thinking?” Anna asked, head raised on rest and balance of hand, arm and elbow’s brace of lift beneath.
“I’m thinking of when the blessing comes,” he spoke. “They in sleep and peace to you, nestled to your breast, heartbeat to yours; their peace becoming yours, and in it, your own fall to sleep and ease as they and wondering who it was that gifted other’s, or if the peace is one and same…I’m thinking of their cries in the night, tired nights and days to come and how even in the little trials how wonderful and beautiful and worth it it all will be…how our little home will be a little more full, hold and bear an evermore love…resting on porch, protecting from sun—little bonnets and hats and long-sleeved covers…you in motherhood and maternal of which you were always made and meant to be, counting my blessings and thanking God that I’m the one to create and raise new souls with you.
I know that life will change though I don’t know full of ways and how, but I’m excited to live and see and know all will be with you.
You were beautiful before. You are beautiful now. You’ll be beautiful then, however bodies and we are changed: a greater light, a greater spirit, a greater love for the family we create…”
Pupils of his eyes were wide in night’s ambiance and dark, and in their dark, like mirror pools, she saw her own reflection—cant of her head, supported on hand, full and near of her body in bloom; change of expression through listen to learn, love and radiance in exudence after.
A deeper love, beyond surface-attractions—transcendent of the flesh; and still he loved hers too.
Still in love, adoring eyes in beam, he moved to her. Hands’ comb of face, over cheek and his brush of hair through fingers’ spread, he kissed her as she lain. In love, her body further eased. In speak and tell of spirits’ gaze of adore and reverie of dream; he loved her in her full of bloom, in gentleness of the candled light and stars through the canopy trees.
She lived the gentle shudder still as wind wavered the trees in sway, glow-stir of stars in through.
