BEHOLDETH

“And the Lord said to Samuel: Look not on (their) countenance; nor on the height of (their) stature…for man seeth those things that appear, but the Lord beholdeth the heart.”—1 Samuel 16: 7

Before her presence, his spirit fluttered; her energy, aura, grace of being, all he sensed but could not explain beyond confession and a knowing of the heart.

They spoke ideas, ideals, and dreams; hopes and a future to what, if blessed, they believed, together, it might hold.

She spoke her own, then turned to him—eyes soft and searching—seeking to witness heart, to learn and find in him his spirit-truths which she, too, could believe.

Across at table, illuminated in light of table lamp above, she rested serene, fair skin and smooth-drawn hair radiant in the light as her eyes read, discerning, seeking into his.

His returned eyes in affection touched her own.  She knew the meaning told in his eyes even if absent words to say or explain, a wisdom of the heart that never finds the words for they are of God and spirit, not of sense, and still she wished to shape them in way of spoken or written way.

She felt her body warm, an affection of focus in lamp above and unbreaking of his gaze strong, but humble, upon composed beauty of her being.

Light flutter of heart, she filled with anticipation of hope for a soon-to-be-knowing already believed though she lacked and remained absent any beginning cognition to the what or why for which she already held conviction.

She asked, “What do you see?”

His spirit meekened, breaking from her eyes as he looked to table searching for simple answer to complexity of emotion, and finding means—my mind or spirit-gift—gaze returned to hers, telling truth before the words.

               She asked of the future.

               He spoke to the now.

“A beautiful heart and a beautiful soul in face that is equal and same.”

Both believed; and in present that lived and as future would prove, answer told eternally true.
