UNDER THE SUN

“Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest, all the days of thy unsteady life, which are given to thee under the sun…for this is thy portion in life.”—Ecclesiastes 9: 9

Day began in glimmer of silver frost and ended in flame of setting salmon sky.  In the cold of dawn, they warmed one another.  In the eve, they shared solace in sunset’s splendor.  Throughout the day—across sun’s arcing ascent and fall—world and sky were changed; and through the change they lived together in spirit of mirth manifest through shine and cast of eyes, in warmth of touch, spoken words, repose of tranquil silence when only presence is desired; and when the fire died and stars emerged from the embers, they existed under dream, different mirth—holding, keeping, lasting, closeness denying pierce and stave of cold—until dawn and day’s return.
