TO ME

A few days ago, I read a passage by Emanuel Swedenborg (a book recommended by a friend, no idea how he found it) that described the faces of angels. In it, Swedenborg wrote:

“…the faces of angels are the forms of their interiors, thus of the affections that belong to their love and faith…it also comes to pass that an angel that excels in wisdom instantly sees the quality of another from his face. In Heaven, no one can conceal his interiors by his expression, or feign, or really deceive and mislead by craft or hypocrisy.”

While we as humans may not always hold true to the last-line standards, I believe our faces, too, have the capacity to express the character of our interiors: our smiles, stares, and the light that is sometimes present, and absent, from our eyes.

I believe, too, in moments in life, we have the capacity to act as agents and facilitators to angels and God’s will, being present and having the ability to serve as the hands and face of change to lives we come across.

I wrote the chorus to this song from the way Swedenborg described the faces of angels and the rest of the song from a story that was in me and wanted to be told.
