We played “Horse” in the driveway and baseball in the backyard. We went to a soccer game in the city, dinner with grandparents, and to the “Movie Gators” (Owen’s words) after. Heading home from the theater, I thanked them, “Thank you for such a beautiful day.”
Audrey laughed lightly then answered in her little-girl voice possessing, already, intonations (and wisdom) of the woman she’ll become, “But you did it Daddy.”
“I only did it because you wanted to. I wanted to make it special. Thanks for giving me a reason.”
The special things in life, it’s not the things that are the value. It’s their reason that defines their worth. Yesterday, they were mine.
